Department of Neurosurgery

Contents of medical cares

We make a precise diagnosis based on objective findings by examining inside the head capsule, brain parenchyma and cerebral blood vessel in considerable detail with safe radial ray diagnostic devices such as CT, MRI and PET.

We also examine if the symptoms of headache, dizziness, numbness in a limb and faintness etc. are caused by intracranial disease. If that is proven to be the case, we then, make differential diagnosis for bleeding and brain contusion, to find out if it is caused by cerebral tumor, brain infarction, cerebral bleeding, chronic subdural hematoma or head injury etc..

As for brain infarction, we provide patients with treatment such as rehabilitation, improving brain blood flow, managing the risk factors and medical therapy mainly focused on prevention of relapses. These treatments are provided on an outpatient basis. On the other hand, as for neurologic diseases such as degenerative disease of the brain and epilepsia we perform a course of medication based on precise diagnosis provided by medical specialist of neurology.

The most characteristic thing about our department is that we undertake treatment for Alzheimer-type dementia with the most advanced diagnosis and treatment. Also we diagnose potential risk of developing into Alzheimer-type dementia when its still in the stage of appearing to be a memory loss, and we proceed to perform preventive action in a proactive manner, if necessary.

In examining Alzheimer-type dementia, we perform a test of cognitive function, blood exam(presence or absence of adult-onset disease), Apolipoprotein E gene, amyloid PET, MRI, and FDG PET(cerebral metabolic glucose metabolism) to find out if a patient has Alzheimer-type dementia, and if they do, we accurately diagnose the extent of the disease(preclinical stage, prodromal stage, dementia stage) in order to choose which therapeutic drug to use, instruct what they do on everyday basis to prevent the further progress of the disease and manage the risks. Furthermore, in case of necessity, we also perform treatment using anti- amyloid (global clinical investigational new drug) after obtaining the patients’ consent.

Even though, as just described, we mainly serve outpatient cares in this department. we provide diagnosis and treatment that are secure, high-quality and objective for each disease.
